EMMA HINZE TO MISS 2022 UCI TRACK CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEASON
German rider decides not to defend her Women’s Sprint title after heavy race schedule
27 October 2022 – Paris, France: Emma Hinze has announced she will miss the 2022 UCI Track Champions League season.
The 25-year-old German rider released a statement confirming the news on Thursday. She cited the need to take a break after enduring a heavy race schedule over the last three years.
The news means she will not defend the Women’s Sprint title she won at the inaugural UCI Track Champions League in 2021, where she wrapped up four victories in eight races to secure the top step on the podium.
Emma Hinze said: “I haven’t missed a major competition for three years and my body is telling me to recharge the batteries.
“It is a difficult decision because the UCI Track Champions League is an incredible series. Last season I really enjoyed the high-quality competition, the way the racing was presented, and the amazing crowds we competed in front of.
“I also like what the UCI Track Champions League has done in terms of parity, with women competing over the same race format, and getting the same prize money.”
The full list of riders set to compete in the UCI Track Champions League is due to be announced soon.
