UCI Track Champions League In Numbers
Seventy-two of the world’s great track cyclists, 206 laps of racing, speeds of 75kph, and 540,000 lumens of light projections made for a spectacular debut event in Mallorca. Ahead of round two in Lithuania this weekend, the staggering numbers behind round one are revealed
November 23 2021 – Paris, France:After an action-packed three hours of short-format racing, four leaders have emerged, each a superstar of track cycling – Harrie Lavreysen (Men’s Sprint), Emma Hinze (Women’s Sprint), Corbin Strong (Men’s Endurance) and Katie Archibald (Women’s Endurance). They will each wear the UCI Track Champions League Leader’s Jersey at round two in Panevėžys, Lithuania on November 27th.
Behind the scenes, a production crew of hundreds and cutting edge technical equipment delivered an electrifying spectacle for the debut event. Here we reveal the key stats behind round one:
The racing in numbers
– 72 riders in the inaugural series, spanning 30 nationalities
– 63 UCI Track Cycling World Championship titles and 29 Olympic medals between them
– 72 custom Santini skinsuits created, each displaying riders’ sponsors
– 206 laps (51.5km) of racing completed across 30 races
– 75kph – top speed reached by Men’s Keirin winner Stefan Bötticher
– 4 riders will wear the coveted Leader’s Jersey at round two
The technical setup in numbers
– More than 140 operational staff delivered the event
– 1 full control room managed led panels, data, lighting, video-mapping and music
– 540,000 lumens of light via 26 video projectors delivered a unique visual spectacle
– 285 meters of LED wall and strip displays – a world first for a track cycling event
– 30km of cabling connected 350 cubic meters of equipment, packed into 700 flight cases
– 13 tonnes of equipment hung above track centre
Behind the scenes broadcasting in numbers
– 80 team members produced the international TV feed and programme – benefitting from augmented reality graphics, a spider camera, onboard rider, super slow motion and 360 cameras
– On TV: 26 international broadcasters around 5 continents covered round 1, including discovery+, Eurosport and GCN+, with a host of studio pundits and commentators narrating the action
– Onsite: Over 3000 fans attended the first ever round of the UCI Track Champions League
